February 2021 insights on venture capital resilience during 2020 despite pandemic challenges, strong global exit performance including marquee IPOs, and predictions for Southeast Asia's next chapter with emerging unicorn candidates.

2020 Venture Capital Resilience

Despite the challenges of 2020, we have seen an increase in venture financing in Asia. Deal counts within early and later stage VC have continued to trend upwards in the year despite the pandemic.
<img src="<https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/68641259aad82a17eab80f42/68654164c73f5b187cd83c606837ed319f76157bf374da0669527eef-5aa3-4761-b70c-b2decd285a72.png>" alt="2020 venture financing trends chart">
Global Exit Performance

During the past 12 months, we have also witnessed robust exits across the global ecosystems. In the US, both Enterprise and Consumer tech companies have demonstrated a particularly strong run, with marquee companies such as ZoomInfo, Snowflake, AirBnB and DoorDash extending their performances post-IPO.

Southeast Asia's Next Chapter

In Southeast Asia, conversations have centered around what is next for leading tech players such as Grab, Gojek, Tokopedia and Traveloka. We anticipate the next 3 years could see the rise of the next cohort of SEA unicorns, which could include players such as Carousell, Ninja Van, Shopback and Carro.
